Gergana Kutseva
A cultural anthropologist by training, she holds a Master’s degree in Cultural Anthropology and is preparing to defend her dissertation, which explores the process of mediatization and its effects on political culture. However, along the way, she became deeply passionate about civic work and activism—work she firmly believes is changing the world, even if its impact is not always immediately visible.
She brings nearly 20 years of professional experience in public communications across the nonprofit, cultural, and business sectors. She was part of the MoveBG civic project, where she worked to mobilize civic support for justice reform in Bulgaria. She has also designed programs to promote corporate social responsibility in businesses. Since 2008, she has been part of a team that regularly monitors the media landscape and was among the first to raise concerns about the negative consequences of declining journalistic quality, unclear media ownership, and political affiliations. She has worked on numerous cultural and arts projects and has experience in the corporate sector as Director of Corporate Communications and a member of the Board of Directors.
As part of the BFW team, she received the Human Rights Award “Person of the Year” from the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee in 2018, as well as the “Advocate of the Year” award from BHC and “Woman of the Year” in the Social category from Grazia magazine in 2017.
