TELUS International Europe (TIE) has donated 5000 Canadian dollars to a project, aiming to renew the activity of the Youth Equality Clubs, founded as a part of the BFW’s Youth Program during 2009 – 2013. The BFW’s proposal was selected by the Public Board of TIE among other 150 socially significant projects. The cheque was officially bestowed at an official ceremony on 9th of February 2016, where 100 000 CAD were given away to 20 local foundations.
The BFW’s project is aimed at girls and boys, aging 14 to 19, based in 13 different towns in Bulgaria. The goal of the project is to teach young adults through informal training and innovative educational methods how to make informed decisions about their health and sexuality, to build up knowledge about their sexual and reproductive rights and to develop leadership skills. BWF seeks to raise awareness of the consequences of early marriages and child pregnancy and encourage youngsters to spot stereotypes and gender prejudices in order to stand up against discrimination and gender inequality.
“We are extremely happy that the initiative of BFW was recognized by the business and in particular by the Public Board of TIE. Today’s youngsters are future leaders and probably employees in the business corporations and that is why it is highly important to educate them how to recognize discrimination and protect their own rights. If this happens, we are one step closer to overcoming the gender pay gap and the lack of women in power”, pointed out Nadejda Dermendjieva, the Executive Director of BFW, while receiving the cheque.
The Youth Program of BWF will restart in the middle of 2016. In order to create more Equality Clubs and educate more girls and boys, we have started a fundraising campaign.
