Feminist Boot Camp 2020: Inspiration, empowerment and knowledge
The fourth edition of the Feminist Boot Camp, organized by Bulgarian Fund for Women, took place from July 22 to 26 in Nessebar. The event is an intensive 5-day workshop that brought together 16 participants from all over the country aged between 17 and 35 years. They had the opportunity to gain knowledge on topics such as feminist and gender theories and trends, history of the women’s movement in Bulgaria, contemporary issues for women, gender (un)equality and human rights, as well as to meet the best experts, activists and university professors in these fields. Among the lecturers were: Prof. Dr. Georgetta Nazarska – Doctor of History and Professor of Cultural Heritage, professor in the master’s program “Matilda” for the history of women and gender at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”; Chief Assistant Dr. Lea Vaysova – Sociology professor at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski ”, researcher and activist; Adela Kachunova – human rights lawyer and part of the team of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee; Svetla Turnin – producer, curator, co-founder and CEO of Cinema Politica – an international network for the distribution of political cinema; Manuela Popova – participant in last year’s edition of Feminist Boot Camp and creator of the initiative “No offence, but…“, aimed at breaking stereotypes in the society.
In addition to sharing knowledge, the camp aims to build and develop participants’ skills to create and work on projects and campaigns related to women’s rights. The five days were filled with intense discussions, sharing of experiences and points of views, group work and creative projects.
After the Camp, the Bulgarian Fund for Women opened an internal contest in which participants can apply for a financial support of up to BGN 3 000, through which they can realize their idea of empowering girls and women in their community.
