BFW organizes a webinar “Domestic violence and violence against women: possible solutions”

As part of the UN International Campaign “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence”, the Bulgarian Fund for Women organized an online meeting (webinar) dedicated to the prevention and combat of domestic violence and violence against women in Bulgaria.

The theme of the webinar, which took place on December 3, 2020 was “Domestic violence and violence against women: possible solutions“.

The event was attended by:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Diana Kovacheva – Ombudsperson of the Republic of Bulgaria;
  • His Excellency Dr. Rob Dixon – Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Bulgaria;
  • Katya Krastanova, psychotherapist from the Animus Association Foundation
  • Vanya Dzhumerska – National Coordinator for Prevention of Domestic Violence, „Standing together “, UK.

The moderator of the event was Rada Elenkova, Program Director at the Bulgarian Fund for Women.

The official partner of the event was the UK Embassy in Bulgaria.

The event took place on the Zoom platform and gathered more than 65 attendees from all over the country who participated actively in the discussion. The possible solutions in combat against domestic violence were outlined by presenting good practices from both Bulgaria and the United Kingdom, with a focus on the “Coordinated Community Response” model. The scale of the problem that millions of women and children around the world and in our country are facing every day was brought to the fore. The Ombudsperson Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kovacheva and the other experts presented the need for improvements in Bulgarian legislation to be more successful in the fight against this shadow pandemic.

The event was also an occasion for BFW to present its campaign against violence and recently issued album “The Eternal Hits of Bulgaria”, through which we try to systematize and show the various cases and nuances of violence against women.
