The Bulgarian Fund for Women received 13 applications for project funding under the Equality and Climate Justice Programme 2022 from women activists and local community leaders in various small and large localities across the country.
The applications were evaluated by the BFW’s team – Rada Elenkova (Program Director), Alexandra Stankova (Project Manager) and Zara Rancheva (Communications and Fundraising Specialist). The evaluation criteria were: relevance of the problem addressed by the project, relevance of the proposed activities to the stated problem, realism of the activities, intersectionality/addressing social inequalities and climate issues, addressing the needs of vulnerable groups, sustainability of the activities, developing local communities and reaching broad audiences and/or stakeholders.
The awarded projects will receive funding of up to BGN 2,000 to activate their communities and together – to implement awareness raising, monitoring, advocacy or community participation initiatives in local and national decision-making processes on equity and climate justice issues.
We are excited to announce the following 11 winners from 11 cities and villages:

The competition was open to participants who completed the first stage of the Programme – a three-day training with national and international experts on the topic organized by BFW in April. It brought together 14 women activists and local community leaders from 11 cities and villages. Each of them was invited to participate in the second stage of the programme by applying for funding of up to BGN 2000 to implement their project idea.
The Bulgarian Fund for Women would like to thank everyone who invested energy and time to submit their applications and wishes them success in the implementation of the approved projects! We look forward to see how their bold ideas will come to life and we will share them with you all.
Due to limited resources BFW is unable to send reasons for rejection to unsuccessful applicants.
This program is realized with the financial support of the Urgent Action Fund.
“Equity and Climate Justice Programme” is being implemented by BFW for the second time and aims to stimulate civic engagement in Earth conservation, increase participants’ knowledge about the intersections between equity and climate justice, and engage local communities and activists to address the problem.
